Default Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8 Question

I have read several reviews on this and yes it's been out of production now since 2007 but I really wants this lens, question though will it fit on a new D5100?

Is it this one? If so, then yes it has a built-in motor for focus and VR. It will also give you a 157.5mm equivalent as your sensor is DX sized. Anything that says AF-S on it will auto focus properly on your camera. Everything else will be manual focus.

The version of this lens made from 1993-2006 doesn't have a focus motor built in, so it won't autofocus on your body. For macro work, that shouldn't be an issue, since autofocus is about useless when working really close. It will still fit your body though, and because it has an aperture ring it will work with nikon's extension tubes making it even better for macro work.

@dak - yea I know it's the older model and from what people say about it, it's better then the new one. sadly since it isn't made anymore the prices are a lot higher than on the nikon website (funny it's still on there)

I wouldn't mind the newer 105mm lens but something about the old version is calling my name. and AF is nice but not on the macro stuff. it's the bokeh that i'm going for with one of these lenses. the older one seems to have better bokeh than the newer one. I can't wait to get that lens to use on my Nikon 35mm and D5100

ps one day I will get the 200mm macro lens

I have the current 105 macro and have no problems with it. I love taking macro shots with it and plus another thing that most people don't realize is that you can add a teleconverter to it. I use my 1.7x with it from time to time.

I love my 105 VR. Even at small apertures the out of focus areas are smooth and creamy. I love it for close up work, but it's also my favorite portrait lens. I can't imagine how much better the prior version would be over the current model.

Well that definitely helps me decide which one we are getting. It's awesome because I love the vintage look and feel of a 35mm and believe it or not Target does amazing film development, and the wife does more of the DSLR, so my next camera is gonna be the Nikon FM10 so I can't wait to use this lens on that.

I have an old F55, is that any good? I know it can AF focus older rear-focus lenses. ??
