Question Tripod Question

I'm looking to get a tripod for my trip to the Black Hills this summer. I don't want to spend a lot but I want to be able to hook it to my Camera bag (Lowepro 102 slingshot)

What would you suggest? What are your thoughts on Grillapods?

I have a Canon T2i (rest of my gear is in my siggy)

What I read when looking for a new tripod is to get a weight on your heaviest camera/lens combo then double it. That is the weight your tripod head should support. Then add that to the weight of the head itself for the amount the tripod legs should support. This will give you room to grow into a good tripod and if it's a good quality it should last you for years.

Knowing your budget will help a lot in giving recommendations. "Not spending a lot" means different things for different people. To some, that may be $30, to others it may be $200.

Thank you. I'd say no more than $100 max. I'd prefer around $50-70

Take a look at this. If you truly only want to spend a 100 dollars, then this is the road you would be looking to take.

I was going to say the same thing. Spending $70 on a tripod - you might as well just throw it away. I cheaped out on mine and still spent over $300 on tripod and head in the Vanguard Alta series. It does a decent job as long as I keep the center post fairly short.

I also have the heavy duty Gorilla Pod which I carry when I fly because it fits easily in the bottom of my carry-on backpack. It works ok, but you need something to set it on or wrap it around for a lot of uses. Certainly better than nothing.
