I have 24-70mm (with hood) L attached all the time to my canon 60D. also have 100mm macro, 50mm 1.8, ipad, shutter cable, 2 lense rear cap, giotto blower (large), and a battery charger.
Question: 1. Could anyone recommend me a LOW PROFILE bag to carry all those? 2. Which one is preferable between messenger and sling backpack? The other day I walked in the zoo for 3.5 hours. I was using manfrotto messenger bag, feel it is in the way while I take picture, not enough dividers/organizer. Also, I think it is too heavy to carry those gears mentioned above on a messenger bag. Thanks in advance. |

Any bag that that has a bit of weight in it and only one strap will cause shoulder problems over time and that includes sling backpacks.
If I am carrying a fair bit of gear, and not covering an event, it will be a photography backpack. I have a few backpacks and other bags. If I am covering an event where I need to be mobile it will either be a belt pack or a harness system. Neither systems may be called low profile. The Lowerpo Fastpack (I own a 200) or the Tamrac Adventure 7 (5547) are not too obtrusive. This is I with the Tamrac bag. ![]() On a lot of day trips it is very rare that that I take it all especially to a city. If I want to travel light it will be one lens & spare battery/card and a lens cleaning cloth. It all fits into what appears to be a very old satchel with an insert from another camera bag in it to protect the camera. Most the time it is very light as I usually have the camera in my hand. If I want to have a bit more flexibility when I have a long lens with me I will have a P&S camera for the general purpose shots. To answer your question which is preferable between your options, given what you want to carry, then the sling bag mainly because it will probably be a bit longer before your shoulder hurts, unless you have one of those bags that allows you to reverse the straps.

No actual advice, but I like using this website to try and see which bag is going to be a good fit for me and my stuff. I prefer backpacks for everything (not just camera gear), but use a shoulder bag when I need quick access and plan to change lenses a lot.
A convertible sling bag might give you the best of both worlds. Something like a Kata 3-n-1.

Easiest thing to do would be to get any old messenger bag, and then put inserts into it.
What you want is probably a Think Tank Retrospective, but they don't come cheap. Timbuk2 makes the Snoop camera bag you might want to look at.
