Hey guys, I'm planning on buying a remote shutter release for my Nikon D3000 and I'm not sure if it would be better to get a cable release or a ML-L3 wireless release
I've heard the the wireless has a but of a delay and I don't know if the cable release has a delay. But what you do think would be the better option? Wireless or cable?

I'm a canon user and use wireless, I have zero delays... sometimes misfires but I think its cause the laser is very strict, if it was radio it would be much easier without pointing the remote toward the camera's remote receiver. I love it and do very well with product photography shots and self-portraits.

I guess that depends on what you are using the remote release for and how far you think you will be from the camera.
I have a cable release (MC-30) that I bought for my F90x years ago, it works with my D300 and is 2 1/2 feet long. Great for tripping the shutter while close to the camera. I also have the 10 foot extension for something like a portrait shoot where I might not be standing right behind the camera all the time (if it is mounted). Such as if I am making some modifications to pose, clothing etc. When I got my first digital it was the D70s. Nice little camera but it did not have the port for the remote trigger. So I picked up the ML-L3 wireless release. The release worked fine, however, it had to be directed at the front of the camera on the D70s as there was only the one sensor. This could be a little cumbersome if you are behind the camera, but it was not that bad. I have just gotten out my D70s and ML-L3 and played with them. And while you do have to have line of sight on the camera remote sensor it is not that bad. I do not have a delay with it though. I press the remote button and the camera operates pretty much as quickly as if I was pressing the actual shutter release. If I was choosing now I think I might still go for the cable. However I will say the remote is handy and much smaller than the cable. |

either/both..they are cheap.
But if I had to choose I would chose cable. It doesn't require a battery which will be dead exactly when you need it most.

I have a Vello Freewave RF release. Very dependable, no delay, and it fires up to 300 feet, through walls etc. I can set my camera up with the 70-200 mounted on tripod on the back patio aimed in the area of my bird feeder, then sit inside and shoot anything that happens into the area I'm aimed at. It cost $44 from B&H Photo.
With the shelf life of modern batteries, it's easy to keep 4 spare AAA's in my kit. A cable (I also have one of them) wouldn't do everything I want a release to do.
