I know when using a tripod I have to turn off the IS setting of my lens but what about a monopod? Do you keep the IS on or off?

It depends on what shutter speed I am shooting at.
Relatively slow, eg < 1/focal length, speeds it is on.

A lot depends on the lens. Most Canon IS lenses it doesn't matter if you leave it on or turn it off, even on a tripod - they are apparently smart enough to know when there is no camera shake. With a monopod I wouldn't even worry about it. Some third party lenses do have to be shut off first. I've used my 70-200 f4 IS on a tripod and never even thought to turn off IS.

Ok, thanks guys!
I have been reading and researching a lot to make sure I start off with my best foot forward. Everything I read said to turn the IS off when using a tripod for the shake thing. I didn't realize canon has smart lenses though. I will have to play around with that and see. It might have seemed like a dumb question but for a newbie its hard to tell lol
