Default Is it worth it?

To get a 50mm lens? I like taking pictures, the best I can I've one photos for friends, nothing professional, but maybe one day. I just like taking good photos. I have the 18-55 and a 28-200mm 1: 3.8-5.6 lens. Is it worth it to get the 55mm? Its used, and I have a gift card so I'd really only be spending like $30ish.

I just cruised through your Flickr and there is some good stuff in there. You seem to have control of your camera and have a good eye.

You need to ask yourself what you want in this new lens. The pros and cons have been discussed at length many times here. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...wqdWqDjS6zZpqA

I have a nifty fifty f1.8 and love it for what I use it for. I got it new for $100 USD. When used correctly it is a very sharp lens. The only drawback (to some) is the need to "zoom with your feet" instead of with your lens. I like having to move about as it makes me look at the scene with a differing eye.

Get it. It's a great learning lens and when you nail shots, they are fabulous. It will really teach you to move around, frame with more care, practice using wider aperture for narrower depth of field to get those beautiful blurry backgrounds, etc.

Haven't seen anyone with a 50mm that didn't regret having it.

I'm not a big fan of the nifty fifty...I sold or gave away every one I ever had.
But "worth it"? Hmm a lens that can do both "fast" and "sharp" for the price of a good filter? Yeah, pretty hard to argue with that.....

Thank you!!

I did end up buying it. I have 30 days to play and see if I want to keep it. It will take some getting used to as I was trying it out in the store, I kept "trying" to zoom. lol. But like you said, it'll make you look at the scene in a different way- which I like
