Sigma 300mm 2.8

Anybody have any experience with the Sigma 300mm 2.8?

Have been shooting alot of sports and have the hankering for a 300mm lens (I shoot now with either the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 or 100-400 f/4.0) but I just cannot afford what the Canon vII is now going for (7K) and I guess they discontinued the original version which was around 4K I think.

Any feedback is appreciated, especially if your experience is with shooting sport.

What about the new 120-300f2.8? It also is an EX APO DG HSM plus it has OS! - about the same price. For longer reach add the 1.5 teleconverter and dish off the slow 100-400.
I do not have the 300f2.8 not the 120-300. I have their 100-300f4 and for the money it is exceptional.

Thanks for the response ....I'm really looking for a prime telephoto, and yes, will probably try to sell the 100-400 if I can get it.

I try to stay away from teleconverters, and unfortunately have read that this Sigma zoom lens is a little slow to focus, which would be a problem for shooting sports.
