I dropped my D90 (don't worry, not so bad) and the kit lens was attached... a 18-105mm VRII. I'm looking for terminology and a repair place suggestion.
When it dropped the only thing that broke was on the lens. There are three "teeth" that line up with the body when you attach the lens before just before the 1/4 turn and two of them are broken. It's just some plastic, hopefully a relatively simple and common repair. Optics all seem to be fine. Does this make sense and can anyone tell me what to call them other than "teeth" when I talk to the repair place? Suggestions on where to get it repaired quickly? Need it quickly for shots of Christmas morning! Thanks.

They'll replace the entire mount plate; one piece of plastic that comprises those "teeth" that form the bayonet lock and the back surface of the lens. It's a simple fix, but expect to pay ~$100 for it.
This is one reason I steer clear of plastic-mount lenses; all mine are metal because if it's going to break, it's gonna break that plate right off, and its gonna take a LOT to do it.

Or you could pay about $10 for the part and attempt the repair yourself.

Finally getting back around to this! Thanks everyone! I'm going to give it a shot myself. $15 sound a lot better than $100+.
