Question Gear for a travel studio?

Hello! I haven't been on here in a long time. I have always considered myself more of a hobbyist with photography. I've learned a lot over the years, and will hopefully keep on learning. I am even taking photo classes at college. My point is, I am graduating soon and will be looking for a job. I have always thought about doing some photography on the side or start up something, but (besides the guts..lol) I do not have any room in my house for a studio. It's one of the big things that has held me off. I don't know what to do about it. Does anyone have the same problem and just travel to peoples' houses with a car load of equipment to set up at their place? Does that even make sense?! lol

If you got this far, thanks for reading and any advice is appreciated!!

I tend not to use homes at all if I can: find a nice place and shoot there. Thats one of the main reasons I prefer using my SB flashes: wireless, no power cords, no need for outlets, fits in a bag the size of a football.

That makes sense. I'll need to get some lighting anyways. My poor Canon has been neglected a lot lately. LOL Haven't had the time, and have been taking a class where we use 35 mm. Time consuming, but fun!

I figured that while the weather is nice there's no big deal about shooting outside, but was worried about working around the weather. Especially in the winter.

I've done this. Your gear will depend on your budget and style. I started with cheap black sheets, shoot-thru umbrellas, and Canon Speedlights.

Now I use Alienbees B400s, white paper (typically, but I occassionally do something more fancy), and a 60" Softlighter II for the main light (reflective umbrella for fill). The only problem with the paper backdrop is it's 9 feet long, but I've always liked the results.

So yes, it is possible.

I've gotten in to these guys lately. Home | lightenupandshoot.com : Entertaining Photography Tutorials. Strobist style!
They list what is called their "backpackers" studio, which is very minimal.
The tuts are great too. Pretty funny guys, which is nice!

For my newborn shoots, I go to the client's house. I have an Alien Bees with shoot-thru umbrella and muslin backdrops that work well when wadded up on the client's couch.

You can buy one of these "lawsuits waiting to happen."
