Tokina 11-16mm Review
I ordered mine two days after Adorama started accepting orders. If even half of Ken's glowing review is true, this is the new lens to beat by a large margin (for Nikon). Of course there are no guarantees, but I think it's notable that Tokina considers this lens an evolution of their previous excellent 12-24. If you're shooting Canon the Canon 10-20 is still probably worth serious consideration.

As soon as I get mine I'll post some shots! Adorama says delivery is expected to start in June . . .

You mean like on his About page?

Not if I get mine first! I'm going to Wausau in late June to try & shoot a Kayaking competition. I'm thinking it would be cool to get some wide angle shots. I've never shot with a real wide angle, so wish me luck.

I took a step down and went with the Sigma 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 EX DG IF Aspherical Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens - not quite the same beast, but had nice reviews and was more gentle on the wallet by a few bucks!

Did you order one too?! I hope you can get really close to those kayakers! One of the most fun things about ultrawide for me is the gigantic DOF. There is something very unique about having the mountain at infinity and the flower 4 feet in front of you all in focus in one shot . . . I hope they start shipping early!! I'm actually bummed that I won't have it for my upcoming trip to Bryce, Utah. It would have been great there. Oh well.

Yup! Sure did. It's been years since I've been up there for this competition. The last time I was there they had people that were laying on large rocks on the rivers edge to capture some shots. All I could think about at the time was, Dude, what if they aren't that good & slam into that rock! Well, now it's my turn. Some of these Kayakers come from all over the world. It's a national competition & when they open up the dam that is right in downtown Wausau, it is supposed to be one of the top 3 sites for kayaking in the US. Kind of hard to believe, given some of the rivers in Utah or South Carolina & such. They must be talking about for competition. So this really all takes place in the middle of the city! So don't expect really glorious scenery for a backdrop.

Sounds like a great challenge! I hope you ordered a good UV filter for that lens in case one of those kayakers bumps the camera. When is the competition? I'm sure you'll get some awesome shots.

They have practice runs all week previous to Saturday competition. I figured I'll be there Friday June 27th & do a little practice of my own & the real competition is on Saturday the 28th & Sunday the 29th. Man I really want that lens before that, so I can at least attempt to get some wide angle shots. The lenses that I have now will suffice though. 50mm, 60mm macro, 18-200mm VR, Tamron 28-80mm, & a Tamron 75-300mm with circular polarizer to fit all but the 50mm.

Good luck! I think going down there for the practice runs is a great idea.
