It's that time of year again... making my Christmas list! I'm really interested in expanding my lens collection (or lack thereof). Right now, I use the 18-105mm kit lens on my Nikon D7000. My other lens, which I rarely use, is a Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6. I find that the 105mm end of my kit gets me as close as 'need' to be in most situations, but I'd like to get something that will allow me to shoot with a faster shutter speed, lower ISO, while retaining natural light --> aka, needing something like a f1.8.
So the question here is this: If I'm on a budget in the neighborhood of $200, which lens should I get? I typically shoot nature shots (sometimes close-ups, sometimes landscapes), indoor family/animal shots, etc. I don't shoot portraits, but prefer candids. I really love the look of great bokeh on close-up, so a big f-stop is desirable and sharpness/quality is a must. I've been looking at either the 35mm or 50mm primes, mostly for price point... but I'm up for suggestions in case there is something I'm missing. Not even sure which one to get between the two either! Any thoughts you might be willing to share are very much appreciated! |

Either of those lenses should meet your needs. Try shooting only at 35mm for a while, and then only at 50mm to get a feel for which FL you might prefer.
