Default Lens : canon 50mm f/1.4 vs sigma 50mm f/1.4 ?

i am thoroughly confused after reading the reviews on canon vs sigma 50mm f/1.4 lens. Can the owner/ experts share their views which one I should buy ??
I heard that at 1.4, canon is verry soft and sigma is much better...

i heard sigma f/1.4has autofocusproblem, but faster than 50mm f/1.4 nikon
the signma looks big and heavy, with big len that may prone to len and camera flare. Why not considering 85mm f/1.4?

The dpreview numbers. [looks like the Canon's softer wide open, but not by a huge amount]. And yes, the Sigma's bigger and heavier, and there have been reports of focus issues, but again, it's probably been exaggerated out of proportion in the way of things on the internet: everybody who has a problem wants to complain, but everybody who's happy with the lens is probably out shooting with it, not posting on a messageboard.

And I'd recommend fredmiranda.com for tons of reviews by users, so you can get the whole contradictory picture.

And POTN has lens sample threads for practically every lens you can slap onto EOS. The "Sigmalux" 50 thread is here; the 50/1.4 USM is here.

You may just have hit the point where you need to rent both, and use them to see which one is going to suit you best.

Thanks Inkista for the valuable inputs. Yes you are right , lot of material is available on th enet . However I thought if we have users in this group having these lenses, it woould be first hand information.

think about ND filters, po.. etc filters that going to cost you with that large dim.
I still perfer 50mm f/1.8, but
compare to 35mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/14, i prefer the later two.
then compare to 85mm f/1.4 wih 70-200 vr II, i still prefer the later..

The only lenses that attract me : 35mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.4, 70-200 VR II, 400mm f/2.8..
;D
