Default Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR Lens

Hi

I need advice please. I really want to get into sports photography in particular football (soccer) and I want to take photos at local games I just wanted to ask if you think this lens would be good for sports photography...

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR Lens: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

also is it compatible with Nikon D3000?

Thank you

The autofocus is way to slow on that lens for sports. You need something like the 70-300mm for sports in good light. For lowlight you'll need a 70-200mm F/2.8 lens.

Thanks, I would love a lens like that but this option is to expensive for me at the moment.

In lowlight could I not just raise the ISO to make up for the aperture? Is there any other options that aren't so expensive? I have to start somewhere :L

The 70-300mm isn't that much more then the 55-300mm.

If you have good light the 70-300mm is a great lens for sports as the auto focus is superfast.

Thanks for all your help, so you think the 70-300mm is better?

If you refer back to my first post you'll see I said that initially.

No, another forum clearly states that 70-300mm is not suitable for running object..
