Default SD SDHC card?

Hey guys and gals,

I am wanting to get into photography as a hobby so my parents bought me a Canon Powershot Sx10 for Christmas. I know I can use either a SD or SDHC card but other then that I have no clue about these things. What type of card do you recommend and is there anything else I need to look at when purchasing a card for this?

Thanks,
~ZeroRadius

SD vs SDHC card whats the difference?? | Qatar Living

Get the biggest one you can afford. Oh, and don't skimp out. Get a brand-name one.

Thanks for the reply. I read the article you linked to and it was very helpful. I searched googl and I can't find the max write speed for the powershot SX10 is. I don't want to spend money on a class 10 if class 4 is the highest my camera can make use of. Any one know the max write speed for this camera?

Also what are some good brands that you recommend.

Edit: Will this work? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Kingston...card&cp=1&lp=5

Some good brands to look into are SanDisk, Lexar, and Kingston. I personally use Lexar, but all of these are reliable name brands.

Going off of ishootRAW's comment, that you should buy the biggest card you can afford. I disagree with that, I personally would prefer multiple 2 or 4gb cards over one 16gb or 32gb card because if a card were to fail and I would lose my pictures, I will be losing less if I have my pictures spread over 2gb cards rather than a single 16gb card. For me, I always empty my cards right after I take the pictures so I never worry about running out of room.

That's my 2 cents.

I would go with Lexar or SanDisk.

You are right. I come from the DSLR-I shoot RAW point of view. I can only get 350-600 (Depending on how much video I'm shooting)RAWS on a 16gb card, And I can fill that up in three hours. But yes, defiantly spread all your "eggs" out.

Although that's why you should get them from a reputable brand. I'm still using SanDisk pro CF cards that I got 8 years ago. (Oh, and one of them was dropped in water, and yet another was dropped 250+ feet while rock climbing - they still work.)

Thank you both. I will be buying a SanDisk Extreme 3 (8GB) when I get paid Friday. To bad I can't use it until Christmas.
