Default Where do I spend the money?

Yah, I know lenses are an investment.

Basically, I "need" (want) two lenses. A UWA and a macro.

For the UWA, I'm considering the Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 OR the Canon 10-22.

For the Macro, either the Canon 100mm 2.8 OR the Canon 100mm 2.8L IS.

The thing is, I only have the money for one of the "better" lenses.(100L or the canon UWA)

I want the Canon UWA for the better build and better sharpness. I'm a landscape guy - I will be using it alot.

On the other hand the 100 non-L is a great lens, but... I would love the IS (especially on a macro) and the weather sealing. There are many times that having a WS lens would be really helpful. Sometimes doing the ziplock thing just does not work.

So what is your opinion? I'm not sure myself. My last runin with Sigma AF/CS has left a bad taste in my mouth (kinda like a cow patty - not that I would know anything about that ). But I also have L fever

Thanx

I know you have had bad experience with Sigma, but their 8-16mm UWA is quite unique and supposedly good.

Not the Tokina 11-16/2.8? [she said, annoyingly.]

....ummm.... you do realize that your 50D isn't weather-sealed, right? And that both the body and the lens have to be sealed to be weatherproof. And right now the only such bodies in the Canon lineup are the 1-series, right? The 7D is "weather-resistant", like the 5D and XXDs, which is to say, not really weathersealed.

You're still going to need the baggie. And probably a filter. Sorry.

Maybe it's time to get a Pentax?

My take: grab the ultrawide. I'm a bang-for-the-buck kinda gal, and whatever I'm going to use most has the highest priority.

I'd really like the extra mm.

Yes the 50D is not WS, but a bag over just the camera is a lot easier to work with then a bag over both. Also, I trust the body more. I bit of water on the top cant hurt it much, On the other hand I have nightmares of water getting in the extending part of zoom lenses. And in the IS/AF switches.
