I was looking for cheaper alternatives to the Demb or BBC Products and came across these:
1. Bounce Card+Flash Diffuser Fr Nikon SB-600/800/900 AT19 | eBay 2. Bounce Card+Flash Diffuser 5in1 For Canon Flash 430EX 580EX II AT30 | eBay I'm really considering #1 to take on photography in areas where ceilings are too high for proper bounce. [I have the Canon T2i & SunPak PZ42X] I'm into more indoor photography (Group photographer for my friends ), examples are of wedding receptions in large halls, low ambient lighting, and group shots of friends, usually 2-6, things like that. - where flash is very necessary to take great pictures. Would this card be a better choice or a Stofen Omnibounce? I can't quite understand what the uses are of each and which modifier serves a better purpose. 1. Would it be better to use an Omnibounce, angled at 60 degrees and shoot away 2. Or better to shoot vertical/60 and use the bounce card? Thanks. |

Don't pay 15 bucks plus shipping on it. You can make this yourself, with stuff you have lying around the house. DIYPhotography has a ton of stuff like this. Make one, see if it suits your purposes, and then buy one if you think the professionally made version lends an air of credibility over the DIY version.
Myself, I use an scrap piece of mat board and a rubber band, with the flash pointing vertically. Kind of like this: | |[] [] It's given me good results. |

I do not have an omnibounce. It seems to me that unless you have mega power to toss around you are being inefficient tossing light 360 degrees (even if that is supposed to be the key to the softness of the light). Recycle time and flash to subject distance are pretty important in most cases. In situations where there is no ceiling or wall to bounce from (outdoors for example) the bounce cards are effective and better than direct flash but still can throw relatively hard light. In a run and gun enviornment a bounce card ould be my first choice. Lumaquest makes good ones. You can also make DIY ones that look and work great. I have both a lumaquest and one I made. I use my DIY unit exclusively - it's better.
I followed these plans: DIY Reflector-Diffuser |
