I don't recall what the price for the tokina is there - in Japan they were the same cost - so i bought the tokina 11-16 which - does cover the full frame at 16mm - so its almost like a 16mm prime for full frame...

When you do move to full frame, you are going to have to replace the 18-105 too,
I would think that you could resell the sigma without a problem and unless you are ready to by a new FF and walkaround lens in the next year or 2, it wouldn't be a waste. HOWEVER - of you want to go FF soon, then you can get and 18-something FX lens to cover all basis. |

Thanks guys,
the fact is that I won't be going to FF any time soon. Ultimately, I would like to print and sell my own landscape photos, and that is just one of the reasons why I would like to switch to FF. But it will definitely be years until I can afford, and what's more important, justify myself getting a full frame. If everything goes well, I can see myself getting a FF in 3 or 4 years. The Tokina is fine except for the lack of built-in focus motor and smaller focal range. Using it at 16mm on FF is nice, but it's not something I would be pleased with in long run. I think that when one day (hopefully) I switch to FF, I would be pleased with a wide-angle zoom, like 16-35 or something similar, to begin with. And yeah, I know I would need to sell the 18-105 as well. |

One doesn't need a FF camera in order to print and sell landscape photos. You can get fantastic shots on a crop and sell those just as much as you would on a FF. Get the Sigma and I think you'll be pleased with what you can accomplish.

You could always get the Sigma 12-24. It's a full-frame lens but is still very wide on a crop sensor.

Yeah, it's a bit more expensive, but not much. But it doesn't take filters, which could be a big minus for use with GNDs. |

Just get the crop ultrawide. You're not going to find anything that does the same thing for full-frame at the same price, and even if you could, it still wouldn't be an ultrawide on crop. Time enough to cash it in towards an FX ultrawide when you get the FF body.
There's also the fact that if you get one of the 3rd party ultrawides, chances are good that you could still use it on an FX body for a while at the longer end of the range. E.g., the Tokina 11-16/2.8 covers the sensor fully on a D700 in the 14-16mm range.
