Default newbie question: these are my lenses, what's best for what?

Hi everyone!

I finally upgraded from my fancy point and shoot to my first DSLR. It's a Canon rebel xsi and I got it second hand from my mom's friend. It came with a 50mm, 1.8 lens, 18-55mm, and a 55-250mm.
In dumb terms, could someone tell me what each of these lenses is best for?
