Question About Remote Shutter Release

As I was looking on Amazon for remote shutter releases for my Rebel XSi, I noticed they ranged in price from $3 to $40. My question is, what is the difference between the various models? Why are some so much more expensive? Is there a specific brand that would work the best and last the longest?

I have a canon model, can't remember the specifics. I've had it since my film days, going on 15 years now. Works the same on my 60d as it did on my Rebel X (film). I think it cost about 15 bucks. I scored one on craigslist, identical, came with a flash that I wanted, the whole kit was 20 bucks (flash, camera bag, remote, canon film rebel with sigma kit lens). I sold it for a couple of dollars.

Short version-go on ebay for a used canon brand. It'll last.
