Default BlackRapid RS-7?

Anyone have one? Just wondering about the security of it. I've heard stores of cameras falling off. I'm one of those people that is completely paranoid about their camera. The idea of dropping it literally makes me shiver. Also, Is there a way to attach a hard grip like this one?Opteka-Professional-Wrist-Digital- I know that it would work with a battery grip. BUT Canons battery grip seams a bit flimsy. Not the type of thing I would want to hang my 50D W/70-300, and flash from.

Any thoughts on this?
Thanx

lots of fans of the BR straps here on DPS. Never heard of any every falling off. Wrist strap? if you like it...me not so much. BR is very east to shoot from and easy to take off when you don't want to use a strap.

I've said it once I've said it a million times: I was never fully comfortable with the BlackRapid strap I tried. In a few days of testing, it kept coming undone.

Not only that, but it really made using the grip difficult.

I tried to reach out to BlackRapid and ask about making one that attached to one of the pre-existing loops on the body designed for the camera strap. Their argument is that it wouldnt work as well. I dont see it, but that's just me.

I absolutely love my straps. I never ever leave the house with them both, and now an then i misplace one somewhere and frantically search shucking all duties until its found.

That said.

The clasp has a threaded lock on it that sometimes backs off. when backed off the camera absolutely can come undone while lowering it into the hanging position. This HAS happened to me. Though i caught it before anything bad happened.

That said....

It is now an OCD habit of mine to reach down and check that locking screw. I dont even think about it and will catch myself doing it many many times in just a few minutes. Its almost like a fidget. Its not just that locking screw either, the canon grips back off alot too, so i check those just as often.

In closing, i think the straps are worth every penny and If i lost one of mine, I'd buy another before i bought groceries. Keep an eye (or a hand) on that screw and you'll never have to worry about dropping it.

Sounds like what you want is the Lu.ma loop.

Lu.ma

I see all the gushing praise for the BlackRapid straps and intuitively, it makes sense. Still, I'd love to find a shop that stocks one and could let me try it on first since ergonomics can be really personal.

Please explain what exactly comes undone. I have never had such a problem. I attach mine to the mounting plate which is on the camera for my tripod and it works great. The strap works perfectly. I agree with the company that to attach it to the top of the camera would not work well.

Anyone with concerns could always attach a separate small strap or cable up to the top mount on the camera to act as a safety, but I have never felt that necessary.

IABoomer: The loop shown isn't quite what I'm looking for: I'm a big guy, and it seems very short.

Kirbinster: The screw that attaches the camera to the strap via the tripod socket kept coming undone. The camera's movement would inevitably cause the screw to loosen to the point where the camera would almost fall down, and it didn't take much to get it loose. This was after I tightened it beyond what I felt prudent: my D80's grip still has a small circular mark from that.

Moving the mounting point from the bottom to the camera to one of the top loops would, IMO, not change a thing: the camera would simply point lens down (if the lens is heavier than the camera) or in the same way it would if it were on an RS. The attachment point could be on the same slide as the current RS system, just have a different mounting system.

Don't use the stupid little mounting screw. I use my Manfrotto tripod mounting plate on the camera and attach the strap to that. Blackrapid actually sells the strap with these plates now.

Default Consider Op/Tech's sling

Op/Tech's sling is only US$22 and comes with 2 quick connect loops. Op/Tech decided that the place to attach these things is on the strap anchors of your camera, where the camera manufacturer intended a strap to be attached. The drawback or cause for concern of the Op/Tech system is the quick connects, which are plastic. User reviews are good, however.

I have this system, and I'm experimenting with using both loops attached to the two strap anchors in order to distribute the load. (Op/Tech suggests just one needs to be attached, leaving the camera hanging almost diagonally.) It takes getting used to: I have to push the strap down and out of the way of the LCD.

Previously, I've tried using this strap with the Sun Sniper screw (US$25), mainly to save money (compared to the BlackRapid or Sun Sniper slings). I chose the Sun Sniper screw because it turns on ball bearings, which I hoped would relieve any torsion in the tripod mount, thus preventing accidental (and tragic) "dismounts". I borrowed my dad's 70-200mm f/2.8L, with the screw mounted on the lens. It seems sturdy, but I always kept a hand on it. In my current config, with the two quick connects on the two strap anchor loops, and with the 70-200mm lens mounted, the sling seemed sturdy as well.

An additional benefit of the Opt/Tech system is that you can add quick connect mounts to other cameras that you may own, and easily and quickly move the sling from camera to camera. I now have the Sun Sniper screw on my S95 with a quick connect looped on it.

I hope this helps.
