Default Why Beauty Dishes are expensive?
I don't understand beauty dishes unfortunately, but I know I need one for better quality photos. Is it a strob, or just a reflector?

its a reflector. More of a hard light than soft although you can usually buy them with translucent domes or fabric socks to make them a bit softer.
There are several DIY examples of beauty dishes on the 'net...manufactured ones are spendy and light specific unlike a softbox /ring.

How can you not know what they are or what they do yet "know" you need one?

Wasn't sure if it was an actual light like a strob or just a reflector cause when I watch others I don't see any studio light used with the beauty dish, I just see a beauty dish by itself on a boom normally. I know I need one cause I was watching Mark Wallace's workshop over the weekend and he was using it for the fashion shoot.
