Camera position whilst in bag/case?

If you have a camera bag/case that is made for a SLR/DSLR do you place your camera (with lens mounted) face down or with the lens horizontal? Is there logic behind the way you place your camera in your bag?

Depends on the bag. I put it in whichever way makes it easiest to access.

I pretty much shove it in so I have easy access.

Both my bags (Lowepro and Cullman) are designed so that the camera only fits one way.

Which way is that?

I've been placing my camera lens down. "Maybe" I thought, because dust would fall off the mirror and sensor? I don't know. But it is easier for me to grab the camera quickly.

But, I am concerned that (even with padding) accidentally setting the bag down on a hard surface would put sharp pressure on the lens. And that can't be too good. Right?
