Default Will this lens work on my D3000?

I am looking for a 17-50mm Tamron 2.8 for my Nikon D3000. I found this one on ebay:

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II LD [IF] SP AF Zoom Lens - eBay (item 190565252082 end time Sep-10-11 20:19:26 PDT)

It is refurbished, but the price still seemed too good to be true. I called and asked if it would autofocus on my D3000, and they said no, it didn't have a motor, and gave me a link to another one for $460, which is the normal price I've seen. I also sent an email to the store, and they responded and said the lens WOULD autofocus on my D3000. I am confused, can anyone help?

It says it's for D40 (first clue that it will focus on cameras like your d3000 that don't have their own focusing motor).

Also, the model is AF016NII (2nd version). The first version did not have the built in motor (BIM), but this 2nd one does appear to.

This is the case also with my tamron 28-75mm 2.8 with BIM. in the 2nd version they added a BIM, did away with the aperture ring, went from 5-pin to 9-pin I believe, and a few other changes.

But if they claim it doesn't have the BIM, I'll take their word for it. The tamron 28-75mm 2.8 with BIM sells for 350-375 used (I sold my 2nd copy of it last week for $330).

Ps is there a 3rd version that has VC (vibration control) that is more expensive?

(this is why you should really read up on 3rd party lenses.)

then again, this changes every week
