Default Zoom H4N/H1 vs. juicedLink... which would be best?

Based on price and qualtiy... which one item is best from the 4 items listed below?

Zoom H1 Ultra-Portable Digital Audio Recorder ZH1 B&H Photo

Zoom H4n Handy Mobile 4-Track Recorder ZH4N B&H Photo Video

juicedLink DT454 4-Channel DSLR Camera Microphone DT454 B&H

juicedLink DS214 DSLR Camera Headphone Amp, Meter & DS214

...Dont worry about budget just pick one that best represents quality mostly.

Assuming this is part of an SLR setup? If so, running this to your mic in will give you much better sync sound in-camera and two copies of the audio in case of mishap: Sescom LN2MIC-ZOOMH4N - Line to Microphone LN2MIC-ZOOMH4N B&H

Yup HDSLR setup. If I'm running that wire into the mic and into the H4n, I would have better sync? I thought I'm supposed to have to sets of audio cause I'm recording from the camera and H4n right?

That cable sends the audio from your H4n into the camera, so it gets recorded into the video file instead of the onboard mic. With a separate audio recorder, you normally have to sync the sound in editing either manually or with a program like PluralEyes. With this setup, as long as your levels are good, you usually won't need to sync up the separate audio in editing, you can just use the video file as-is. Does that make sense?

perfect sense but now I got a few questions, do I need to hit the record button as well on the H4n and record on both devices? or just the DSLR?

If I stopped recording on the DSLR it would stop on the H4n as well with this wire you recommended?

When you say "onboard mic" you mean the one in the DSLR not the H4n correct?

I know some people who just let the Zoom roll the whole time, regardless of whether or not the camera is rolling. Synchronizing the clocks on the two devices helps in editing.

Yeah
Thanks for the help!

Now I know there is a bundle version of H4n with a wireless microphone but I got no clue about wireless microphones, what would you recommend to use? I heard many sony wireless mics work well but I heard sample on youtube and when you touch the wire it tends to make noise into the recorded sound.

Handling noise happens no matter what your setup is. It tends to be more pronounced on lavaliers because there's more to bump.

I'm a big fan of the Sennheiser kits. I'm getting a G3 (among other things) in the near future.

It depends on what you're actually trying to do. For one person speaking, or an interview, lavs work great. If you're trying to get ambient (natural) sound, a shotgun is probably the better choice.

Another thing I left out--get a headphone splitter for the Zoom. You can run one channel to the camera via the Sescom, and use the other for monitoring. Get a decent pair of closed-back, non-noise canceling headphones and you're good to go.

yea interviews mostly and solo product reviews in a hopefully quiet room.

Also which headphones you recommend (I have another topic on headphone here) ?
