Default Budget Nikon Fashion Lens Opinions, please.

Hi Y'all,
I have my first fashion shoot this weekend! I'm curious as to what lens you would recommend. I'm using a Nikon D5000 and already have the 18-55mm kit lens. I've read that a 50 mm and 85 mm lens works well. I'm on a rock bottom budget.

The shooting environment will be indoors with a mix of natural and supplemental light. I will be the only photographer, so I will have complete access before and after the show. Emphasis will be on the clothing.

There will also be an intimate portrait shoot afterwards, if things go well. This will be both inside and outside.
(Is "portrait" used interchangeably for full length fashion and headshots?)

Thanks for any help!

rock bottom budget would indicate the 50f1.8D($120us)... it will be manual focus on your camera. The 85 is also manual focus.
With a focus motor you're looking at the 35f1.8G ($200) or the 50 1.8G ($220). The 85mm with the motor is over $1500.

Thanks Bruce!

I read that my 18-55 lens would work as well. Would this be alright, given I would be taking shoulder up and full length portraits?

Sure it would... you'll probably just need to bring some light with you.

I hope to get a 50mm prime in the near future. It will be my first lens purchase outside of the kit lens.
