Default Tripod Advice

Hi,

I'm in the market to get a decent quality tripod and it's like entering an entirely new world! To give a little background, I picked up a cheap (£30) tripod when I got my camera about 3 years ago, since then I've replaced my body with a 7D and now have a miriad of lenses with the heaviest being the 70-200mm F2.8 IS II L. The tripod I own is no longer able to deal with the weight of having a 7D with that lens and a 430EXII speed flash attached, and so I've found myself using the tripod less and less (the 70-200 was never going to lose out haha )

So my question is what do people recommend for a sturdy tripod, that is light enough to be used for travel, whilst being able to support the weight of my gear, with room to spare for future expansions. It would be primarily used for landscape and night shots rather than action. Would I be better with a ball joint head or a pan head or some other type I haven't thought of.

Help is really appreciated. I feel I know my way around cameras but tripods is a whole different story!

Paul

Just up the road from you...

3 Legged Thing - They Came From Stagsden

They're good... [I'm 3LT endorsed, and have four of them - Brian, Eddie, Kirk and Adrian, they all rock]

Thanks for the link Sime. They seem to have some nice looking gear. Might have to look into supporting a UK brand.

There are the ever popular Manfrottos as well. Just keep in mine: General rule for a very stable tripod is the weight of your heaviest loadout, times 2.

Sime - after having a good look round their site and at their products I've ordered myself a 3LT X2 Eddie with Ball Head. Thanks for the link.
