Ideal LENS for Bird photography

Dear Friends,

Now,this is to request you for your advise on updating my existing gear of Photography.

I own

Nikon D7000 DSLR with Nikon DX AF-S VR Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED Lens,
Nikon ED AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Lens,

I feel that my Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR lens does not give required magnification for long distance Bird photography.

I am confused with regards to purchase of Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D VR after reading various reviews on Internet.

I sincerely request for your advise on above matter.
