Default DSLR Accessories/LEAST-Haves

We have a thread dedicated to the most desirable/useful accessories to get for a dSLR, but what about all those geegaws and doodads marketed as must-haves that are really not all they're cracked up to be? Let's hear what purchases are best to avoid...

Well, some will agree and some will disagree...but I have yet to get anything satisfactory out of my 2x Tele-converter, and they're not cheap. Shoot, I had the perfect opportunity to give it one more try today and forgot all about it.

I know that most will probably disagree with me, but I found the lensbaby 2.0 about the dumbest $200 (lens+aperture kit+tax) I've ever spent on a photography related item. After a couple weeks of using it, I ended up returning it and buying a Creative Zen Vision W instead as a movie player and as a portable CF card backup device.

While I like my lensbaby and find it fun, I can see how lots of people can consider it a waste of money. I think it depends on the kind of shots you want to take and the kind of shots you enjoy taking. Because if you don't enjoy it, what's the point?

I'll consider myself lucky that I haven't yet made a purchase that I regret.

Camera Armor seems like one of the more useless things you can strap onto your camera unless you're a spelunker who enjoys leaving your camera dangling around your neck while going through narrow crevices.

Great thread! This is really helpful as well. No one wants to get suckered into spending lots of money on anything useless!

Default Lensbaby

I love my lensbaby too but completely understand that someone might not like it. My husband doesn't enjoy the photos I take with it!

i'm pretty selective about what i buy, but i did learn that buying really cheap glass to try it out isn't the best decision (ended up selling all of my trials on eBay)

overall though a least-have in my book are all the 1-2GB CF cards that I have...4-8GB is the only way to go, especially shooting RAW
