I have the Canon Rebel XT that I purchased about 5 or 6 years ago. When I purchased it, I also bought a Tamron 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 Tele-macro (1:2) all in one lens. It wasn't long when the lens started to malfunction...leaving me only able to take pictures with lens fully extended...therefore changing lenses constantly while shootingt. I now know after researching that Tamron is pretty much junk..but...I LOVE the flexibility of this lens! I just purchased a Canon EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM. I am a bit disappointed. Is there a lens out there comparable in features as my Tamron, but with a better quality? I think I'm taking this new canon lens back...I use macro quite a bit and just hate changing lenses all the time. Does canon have something else that may suit my needs? I'm a very amature photographer...so I'm not educated in equipment and so on....any help would be appreciated...(my budget is not big)....I could swing a bit over $1,000...but not much more....

You own a DSLR, get used to it ;-)
First, why don't you like the Canon 70-300IS? Now, this needs to be split up. Do you want the 70-300IS for telephoto? Or do you just want it for macro? If you want it for the range I don't see why your unhappy with it, it's a pretty dam good lens for the money, however, if you don't need IS then the 70-200 F4L is perhaps the best out there. On to macro. The lens I suggest to all but the pros is the 100mm 2.8. I think it's like $650 B&H.
