That will make it hard to grip the filter - I recommend a "filter wrench" do a search, you'll find lots of options... they're fairly cheap - most camera stores should carry them

you can also try one of those rubber grippy things made for removing jar lids...

Thanks. I forgot about the rubber grip stuff. I decided to risk it and put a very tiny amount of silicon graphite lube on the threads. Just to make it a bit easier to remove.
I could use the wrench (or rubber) but it is just too much torque on the lens mechanism. There was so much drag on the threads. The lube helps a great deal. Now, it is just slippery enough. I just have to be sure not to accidentally get any lube on the glass.

A good way to unscrew them is to use thin rubber gloves (think toilet cleaning
). I think you can't be wrong with a bit of silicone grease, just be careful not to put too much as it can get onto your filters and lens.
