Default strap or no strap?

My camera strap is starting to bug me.
Im trying to do things right, use a tripod as much as possiable with mirror lock up and remote only to have the strap flapping around in the breeze, with macro it always seems to get in the way.
It does come in handly some times so im not sure i want to ditch it compltely
.
Is there a clip on version?

I have looked at the black rapid strap but my tripod plate seems to be a permanent fixture on my camera now.

What do other do or use?

Yeah, mine kept staring at me as well. Finally had to put a blindfold on the sucker

Sorry, couldn't resist. On the serious side, I do just use the strap myself. But many of the alternative straps that use the tripod socket have a socket of their own to mount the tripod head plate onto the strap. Kinda like these (I think these kinda straps stink and are very awkward but it was a quick one to find that had that double-mounting method that I'm referring to.) link to an ebay auction

i leave my tripod plate on and hook the Black Rapid to it. I did not buy the BR screw for the plate, I just use the OEM d-ring on the plate.

There are a lot of ways to go about it..
For my P&S I stitched some webbing from the OEM strap thru one of the strap lugs. It's kind of a "figure 8" setup. I just clip my strap into the open end when I want to use the strap.

On the D90 you could attach a SS split ring (like for keys) to one of the strap lugs to clip to. And on the 7000 you can just clip directly to one of the OEM triangular split rings. (If you remove the little plastic thing which serves no real purpose. Mine are both missing...must have fallen off over time)
