Hi, I've been getting my prints done at Peak Imaging and have developed a bit of a habit for their C-type prints. This is all well and good, but they're REALLY expensive.
I now want to move on and learn the art of printing using an inkjet on quality papers and get full control over my images. Years back I had an Epson R300 which I threw out because it needed a software reset (and I wish I hadn't chucked it..) I can obtain another of these in good working order and try with that - however, I also notice that the price of inkjets has plummeted lately. Question is this - has the last six or seven years of inkjet development delivered printers that are significantly better than the R300 and should I go new or 'retro'? If I go new, what would be a good recommendation? I'd be looking to print fine art papers at A4ish sizes... GD |

I think so - Epsons pigmented inks, and the most recent generation, the k3 ultrachrome (i think) have been pretty good, and give the printer a nice wide gamut. I've got an epson r2880 - and it does a very very nice job on fine art paper. (I am using a profiling workflow)
I'm not sure what other options are out there - but plenty that print at the a4 size - the last printer I had was an old epson 1280 - which was fairly good, but the bronzing issue is now gone with the new inks. Pretty good black density. Not bad black and white printing even with the basic epson RIP. I cant give to many comparison points though. |
