My first issue: why a magenta filter? They were used in the film days to balance green light: theyre useless now.

An FLW magenta is a warm tube filter - which is better matched to what most flourescent tubes produce - to deal with balancing flourescent light. So it is better matched to balancing flourescent than a traditional magenta filter - which simply pulls out magenta. (there are also FLD magenta filters - which are for balancing the daylight flourescent bulbs)
If you need a magenta filter for the purpose of minus green (or to give you a magenta color cast)- then you'd probably simply want a magenta filter. FLW vs regular magenta is dependent on why you need the filter. Quote:
