Default How do you remove wrinkles form a backdrop?

I won o backdrop stand and a couple of drops at an auction this past weekend. The white one is clean and in good condition except for the fact that it had been folded improperly and I am now in the process of ironing the damn think to remove the checkboard pattern of creases.

The black one, also in good condition, had been both folded then hung up for display at the site. Sadly, since it is a 3 x 6m it got kinda dirty and some footprints on one end. I was planning on giving it a wash and figure that should take out the fold creases. I am just curious though...I have no washing line and it is really really big. If I put it in the dryer on a light setting it should b u ok but as soon as I take it out it will get all wrinkly...

any tips?

In my opinion, cloth backdrops are a waste of time unless you are talking about heavy upholstery fabrics. Those two backdrops will always be wrinkled to a certain extent, and unless you can get them to lay perfectly you'll see ripples and waves.

The easiest solution is to nuke the white one with light and blow it completely to white. All wrinkles and texture will be gone. To get the black one to go completely back, move your subjects far enough away from the background and make make sure no spill is hitting it. Use flags if necessary.

Yep ^this^!!! All that I have right now are muslin backdrops and I don't even attempt to get the wrinkles out. It is completely pointless. I try to do it like he said, or if all else fails, use photoshop after the fact to burn or dodge them out.

mmhmm...most of that I had figured out and/or do already...s'not hard to get a white backdrop to show up seamless and black if you pay attention...

It's mostly the big creases and fold lines I am concerned about...

Don't fold it..... ball it up. If you use a shallow enough DOF the wrinkles will fall out. Folds will catch light & create shadows etc.
