Default What's the best Noise-Cancelling Headphones for HDSLR Recording/Sound Monitoring?

I need it for video interviews in conventions where the general public is, so it gets extremely loud with very loud background music and crowd noise. I've tried the bose noise cancelling headphones and it did an amazing job, but it was like $300. - Bose® - QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones - QUIETCOMFORT 15 - Which I may get if they're the only ones in the market with the best noise cancelling feature. But I went to dslrvideoshooter.com and they recommend Sony MDR-V600 Circumaural Closed-Back Professional Monitor Headphone with Reversible Ear Cups for Single Sided Monitoring - Sony MDR-V600 Headphone MDRV600 B&H Photo Video
But also note, the top rated headphones in the noise-cancelling area on B&H is the Sony MDR-7506 Circumaural Closed-Back Professional Monitor Headphone - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...Headphone.html

Price is not my goal right now, but getting the best product for the price, i.e. if I buy the $300 bose headphones, I want to make sure I can't get the same quality for cheaper. And my goal is to cancel as much noise as possible in a very loud environment in order to hear what I'm recording.

Let me know which is best for the price for my specific application.

Most sound recordists I know use the 7502 Sony cans... They need to hear a bit of background noise for balance...

What are you recording? Just voice for the interviews?

I used the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro cans for a while, they're not cancelling, but block out about 90% and sound amazing...

Sennheiser UK - HD 280 PRO

Yes, I only want to record the voice spoken into a handheld microphone, I don't care about the surrounding noise and it does bother me when I can't hear the interviewee at all because it's too loud in the environment.

To throw another spanner in, I've been using Beats By Dre Studios for the last few months - just for my iPhone, really nice (powered / noise cancelling)

Can you not try 'em out?

Noise canceling is bad for recording applications. You don't want the headphones messing with what's coming into the recorder.

I use the aforementioned Senny 280s, better isolation than the Sonys, extremely neutral too.

In that case you're probably not getting clean input anyway, so the headphones aren't going to matter much.

no I did it last year at the event I covered it came out very well, just I couldn't hear what the interviewee's responses because the noise around me was interfering with my hearing. If I could hear the interviewee's responses I could respond to their responses better instead of moving onto the next question on my list of questions.

Have you tried monitoring with one ear? I mean ... if it's too loud to have a normal conversation, then you're going to have a ton of background noise.

here's one of my videos, YouTube - ‪[1/2] Lexi Belle EXXXOTICA NJ 2010 EXCLUSIVE Interview‬‏

yea a lot of background noise but I have no problem understanding the interviewee when reviewing the video afterwards, but during the recording I myself can't hear the interviewee's responses with my own hearing. I haven't tried monitoring ever sadly, but I plan to get the headphones and get magic lantern installed on my T2i to monitor the sound.

Few things:

1) There is a lot of background noise in your video
2) As mentioned, if you're looking for true sound input monitoring accuracy, don't get noise reduction headphones.
3) Bose, for noise canceling and listening enjoyment, are nearly impossible to beat (I own a pair and love them)
4) If price a big issue, get a decent set of ear buds - it'll knock down the ambient noise - this would also allow the single-ear monitoring someone else mentioned if you're only concerned with hearing the response rather than judging quality of recording.
5) Are you somehow making money from doing low-quality production interviews with porn stars at trade shows? (that's all I saw on your youtube channel...)
6) 25 seconds of tone bars/static/distortion as an 'intro' is painful to watch. Check out videohive where you can buy pre-made intros for under $10...

Yeah ... you should probably put an NSFW tag on that.

Was she drunk?

What kind of mic are you using? Cardioid? Have you tried a shotgun? Not sure what your recording setup is, but a mic that's harder to drive, and has a higher SPL rating might help too. This one has a 137dB SPL rating: Sanken CS1 - Short Condenser Shotgun Microphone CS-1 B&H Photo

The HD280s would probably make a pretty big difference, as would isolating earbuds (Shure makes a bunch that are decent).
