Question Filters, Polarizers, and Bears, Oh My!

I've been reading at length about filters and polarizers. I happen to find the advise and feedback that has been provided by DPS members far more helpful, honest, and objective. So, share your thoughts:
1. Polarizers? Linear or circular? Recommended brands?
2. Other filters? Worth it? Just use the lens hood?
3. Bears, well, not very applicable at this point, so forget I mentioned them!

1. Circular, linear may cause problems with metering.
2. Maybe, depending on what you shoot. If you're shooting landscapes, you'll find filters are a real help.
3. Forget what?

1) Circular
2) As far as filters go for protection, just stick to the lens hood. Filters for other effects such as ND filters can be great though.

I have to agree with Nicole and ElCapitan

Circular is far better and as for other filters... Obviously get a UV filter for every lens if for nothing more than protecting the glass of your very expensive lens. And yes a set of ND filters can do wonders for Landscape shooting especially when capturing moving water such as waterfalls. Also a Graduated ND filter can really help for getting better skies while keeping your ground subject matter well exposed.
