Default Tokina 12-24mm f4

Hi - I have a Canon 7D and am pining for a landscape lens ... I've read some good reviews about this -- I'd like to see a bunch of photos taken with this lens to see what it can do, never having had a wide angle lens before. It looks like good value, although I'm a little concerned about the weight. Would love to hear your opinions on this or any other landscape lenses you love.

It's a good lens provided 12mm & possibly F4 meets your needs.

Some examples.
(1) No exif but probably 12mm.
Sydney Opera House

(2) No exif but again probably 12mm

(3)
Bulletin Place
Camera Canon EOS 40D
Exposure 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture f/11.0
Focal Length 24 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias -2/3 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire

(4)
Circular Quay reflected.
Camera Canon EOS 40D
Exposure 15
Aperture f/14.0
Focal Length 12 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias 0 EV

Just 4 from the Tokina 12-24.on a 1.6 crop body.
I have lots of lenses suitable for 'scapes. everything from 12-24 to 100-400.

Its a great focal length for an FX camera - sorry being a Nikon guy I am not familiar with what type of body a 7D is. If it is a DX you may find the lens not quite wide enough. I suggest also looking at Sigma lenses. I have a Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6 that I love on my Nikon D700. It is very sharp, and for landscape you really don't need a fast lens as you are typically shooting in good outside light. I had a Sigma 10-20mm that I sold when I got this lens, but I loved that one on my DX bodies. You would be surprised at how much difference there is between 10mm and 12mm.

Here is a 12mm shot taken with my Nikon D700 and the Sigma (this would be equivalent to 8mm on a DX body):

The 7D is a crop body, not full frame. And that's exactly why I'm asking the question, because I'm wondering if I should get a 10 instead of a 12 ... I've heard some negatives about Sigma though ... nice pics both of you. I understand a full frame is better for landscapes but I won't be going there any time soon ... gotta work with what I have.

Don't know if there is a difference between the sigma for canon versus nikon, but I loved my 10-20mm HSM lens on my Nikons.

I really couldnt justify the expense of an ultra-wide if I was only getting 12 from my 18mm wide end on my 18-70. So a 10-24 (which is what I got) was ideal.

Well now I'm wondering if the Sigma 10-20 might not be a better choice on my 7d ... can anyone share their photos from a similar setup? And are you aware of any negatives as well as positives?

Ok - now I'm thinking of the Sigma 8-16mm -- is there any reason NOT to get this instead of the 10-20 (aside from price). I read something about it not taking filters ...
