Default Are EF-S lenses a good long-run bet.

Isn't it only a matter of time before full-frame sensors start appearing in the whole range of cameras - rendering the cropped sensor lenses obsolete?

I ask because, I am currently considering picking up a Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-45 USM lens. I hope to maximise my value over a long period of time with different future cameras.

I don't know if you're ever going to see full-frame completely replace cropped-sensor bodies, and if they ever do, you'll have plenty of warning. Look at the range of sensors out there now, including stuff like the 4/3 sensors that have become more popular over the last several years. If everyone was going full-frame, why would anyone have introduced that format?

In addition, lenses (especially decent lenses) retain their value very well, so if you ever change your mind and decide to go full-frame, I'd bet you could sell that lens for a decent price, making it the cheapest lens rental you'll ever see.

Unless you plan on moving to a 5D series or 1D series, then don't worry about it. Half my lenses are DX (The Nikon equivalent to EF-S) and thats simply because I cant see myself ever going full-frame, or at least not within the next 10 years.
