Default EF 35mm f2.0 or EF 24mm f2.8?

I own a Rebel XS. I would like a decent wide(ish)-angle lens for relatively cheap lens for portraits that can get a good bokeh effect also.

EF 35mm f2.0
or
EF 24mm f2.8

"good bokeh effect" is ambiguous. What are you looking for, exactly?

Neither of those lenses is wide on a crop sensor, and only the second (24mm) is wide on full-frame.

by bokeh i guess i mean good DOF.

I guess what im trying to ask is, What would you suggest for a cheap wide-angle lens for a Rebel XS that would take good portraits?

generally wide angle lens and portrait lens are mutually exclusive. the 35mm would be the better compromise of the two when used as a portrait lens. You have the 50 which would be ever better than either the 24 or 35 and because of that I would go with the wider 24 for interiors, large groups, landscape shots.

Still ambiguous. Does "good" mean "deep" or "shallow" DoF?
