Default Travelling with a tripod

Ok so I was wondering, how do I attach my tripod to a regular backpack? The reason I want to use a regular backpack is that so I can put my d90 and my lenses along with other things such as clothes, books and other personal items. If that isn't possible, then can anyone recommend a camera backpack with a tripod holder that fits a lot of personal items along with the camera gear which looks good as well?

Thankss

If you've got separate padded cases for the camera equipment, then a regular backpack might work great, and most of these should have some straps, attachment points, etc., that are suitable for attaching a tripod. Some cheap (non-climbing) carabiners and/or bungee cords might be helpful, too. I've got a Lowepro TLZ case that I use on my chest with a small pack on my back for gear.

There were a few reasons I went this route, vs. getting a dedicated photo backpack. First, I want my equipment accessible while hiking; de-packing every time I want to take a shot is a pretty lousy option. Next, I anticipate also wanting a setup like this when I'm carrying a full backpack, so this is versatile enough to work with whatever I might be carrying on my back. Next, I wasn't able to find any photo backpacks that had room for a hydration pouch, which is really nice when hiking.

If you end up going with a dedicated photo backpack, there are quite a few that do what you're looking for, I believe.
