Default Manfrotto Tripod w/o Head

Considering the purchase of one of these tripods. Do I definitely need a tripod head right away or can I use it without it? How much will this affect me?

If you only want to adjust your camera position by moving the tripod only (and I have never ever done that) then you don't need a head.

A head really does make life very much easier.

You'll need a 3/8" to 1/4" adaptor, because the screw on the top of the legs will be larger than the opening in the camera.

The head on a tripod makes a big difference. Different hand works better with the shooting style a person have. If you like to do alot of panning the a pan and tilt head would probably be best.

I love my rc322 head, I think the have an updated version of it now.

I'm sold on that I need a tripod head.

Question tho...Would my Joby ballhead work?

JOBY GorillaPod Ballhead - Ballhead stabalizes your camera and it allows it to take pictures at any angle

At least in the meantime?

Depends on what camera you have. The is a reason why on the Joby website the camera on the head is a 30d. Its because it don't weight that much.

If you have a semipro camera, pro camera, with pro lens, then you would need the manfroto head.

Ken:
Canon 30D: 784g.
Nikon D90: 703g.

The 30D is actually fairly heavy. The 40D and 50D are both 822g. The Joby head should be fine for anything up to that point.
