So I'm somewhat new to filters in general and had a pretty simple question, hopefully at least.
Basically I have a Sigma 28mm f/1.8 prime lens. I want to buy a UV filter and may a ND filter, but am totally oblivious as to how to make sure the filter is the right size if I'm buying online. Do I just look for a 28mm filter? Or are there other way filter makers market their products compatibility. Also any middle of the road recommendations that wont break the bank? Thanks Guys! |

28mm is the focal length: filters are measured by their diameter. If you flip the lens upside down, you should see a symbol that is a circle with a line through it, then a number. That's your diameter for the filters.

Hi am7787,
I really like Tiffen filters. They have varying models and one of the best priced and working polarizers that I've found. It was about $80 with a 77mm thread (you can look up the filter size on the camera companies website). Brands are personal preference but I think they make a good product for the price. Wow, 77mm? I like Hoya filter, different brand makes different grade of glass on the filter. You can get a Hoya (hd) 20 bucks filter that had cheaper glass and it thicker and heavier or get the better one Hoya pro1 digital I think, are made with better glass and thinner.
B+W makes great filters too.
