Default Nikon & Windows x64 bit users, you gotta see this!

i have been so so so extremely pissed off with Nikon for not developing a codec to allow us to view .NEF thumbnails (because really, how hard could it be?)

i made a post on one of the pages that i "Like" on Facebook, and they directed me to FastPictureViewer Codec Pack 3.0.

it's not free *sad face* but for $15 I can see all my NEF files in thumbnails, and it also auto-rotates all your photos. when you upload, all of the thumbnails (and even when you click to view in Windows Photo Viewer) display in the correct orientation, right off of upload! NEVER MANUALLY ROTATE AN IMAGE AGAIN!?!?! YES PLEASE!!!!

i swear this is not spam. i am genuinely ELATED to have found this software.

i know that Nikon's have in-camera auto image rotation (and yes, i do have it turned to ON) but that only seems to be recognized when i open the photo in Adobe Photoshop. Windows doesn't seem to recognize the correct orientation for me, UNTIL i got this codec pack.

i hope this helps somebody else out as much as it did me

Thank you.. Anything that allows me to organise my photos before they get to Lightroom is a very welcome addition.

also going to add Light Image Resizer.

AMAZING photo utility. resize, convert formats, add watermarks & borders, and the best part is you can ctrl+click to select which photos you want to process, or you can do an entire folder, and then just right-click to open up Light Image Resizer.

I seriously use this thing every day.

For viewing in windows explorer, Canon like Nikon only support 32bit...for whatever reason

Smile Light Image Resizer and Wic

Hi,

I m Fabrice ceo and founder of @ -Obvious Idea-Obvious Idea the new owner of Light Image Resizer ( previously known as VSO Image Resizer )

I just want to thank you about the link back to our product, and want to tell about the canon support ( .cr2 ) in Light Image Resizer is using the OFFICIAL canon sdk to decode raw, so you have the same compatibility than the DPP program from Canon.

We plan to support wic, but Katia is right, there is no good support ( I didn't check recently ) for a 64bits version of the Canon Wic

I hightly suggest to use the WIC codec pack which not only works for 64bis ( vista , windows 7 ) but also improve the decoding and jpeg orientation within windows explorer

you can read about this topic on this link :
Auto-rotation of images in Windows 7
