Default PCB Vagabond Mini

Paul C Buff, The White Lighting / Alien Bee guy came out with a new battery pack. It can be used on most AC mono lights and packs. The new Vagabond Mini uses a super light lithium battery. It has some good specs so I ordered one. It was on backorder and took a little less than 3 weeks to arrive. I charged it up and took it out in the front yard with a 5' octobox and a 650w/s monolight. Recyle at full power was under 2 seconds and I think it would go all night if I had the time. Price is US$239.

I'm jealous. I've been wanting to order one of those but have been waiting for it to not be on backorder.

Backorders are clearing pretty quick and they don't charge you until it ships. I placed my order 3/11 and it shipped 3/28. Adds a whole lot of options for me as now I can use a bunch of different light modifiers that I couldn't use with the stobist setup...

That's funny! That's what I did the first go round with a cheap converter from wallyworld... Only I read that not having the right converter could hurt gear...so I started shopping for the "right" converter and found they were pretty spendy (over US$100). Then I read where you can take off the lithum & use this Buff unit to convert a regular (SLA Motorcycle/car) battery. bada bing, my motorcycle battery is now my backup/failover battery. My other thought was a gas generator but I'd want one big enough to run other stuff (power saws, freezers, etc) so that made the idea of hauling a 200 lb generator around a little cumbersome

I'm another proud owner, Bruce.

Now we gotta find out how we're gonna use it, right??

Now that the weather is breaking here in Chicagoland, I'm getting some ideas. You?
