Canon 50 f/1.4 or Canon 85 f/1.8 for portraits?

Hi everybody, I'd like to buy a new lens but I don't know which one. These are the two lenses I'm considering. My interest is in people photography, portraits. The thing is I'm using Rebel XSi (450D) so crop body. For this body 50 f/1.4 would be perfect but I want to upgrade to fullframe and for portraits, especially headshots.

Do you think I should go with faster 50 f/1.4 or with a bit slower 85 f/1.8? BTW I'm a student and my budget is quite limited so answers like get both doesn't work for me ... at least for now

how about the 50mm 1.8 and the 85mm 1.8

I am one of those view people who finds a 50mm on a crop frame a bit nowhere (send flames people)
85mm for portraits for me

Either will be OK when using your 450D.
Conventionally 50mm will a bit on the wide side when using a full frame camera.
The 85 will be great for portraits on a full frame camera.
In your situation I would purchase the 85mm (I do own one)

I don't want to buy 50 1.8 because the build quality. It feels a bit like a toy and sometimes when I'm in photography mood I go out and shoot in any weather conditions. Once I was shooting in -22°C (-7.6°F) and I'm quite worried if the lens would survive these conditions.
