Hi All,
Spring is coming here to the northeast of the US and I would like to take some high depth or long visa landscapes and waterfall pics. I would like to get rid of the haze in my landscapes and would like to get that foamy water look in my waterfall shots. I am about to buy both a good polarizer and a high number nd filter. The big question is do I remove my haze filter from the lens first or do I screw the polarizer or nd filter over the top of them. Thanks Mike |

It is a matter of preference, but I usually leave a UV filter over all of my lenses, not for haze but for protecting the front element.
BUT, when I add a CP I take the UV off. If I stop for water and want the effect, I will either either swap out or add the ND to the CP. Since the ND will require a tripod (at least for me) adding to the top of the CP is not a biggie. HOWEVER, if I do not bring my filter wrench with me I will take the CP off first. My Hoya filters are in thin housings, my fingers can not grip the two and twist off, hence a filter wrench. So leaving the UV on is up to you, but as far as optical physics goes, the CP will almost always eliminate the haze. Depending of course on how bad it really is. Any long shot that has haze in it, and no UV filter, can usually be removed in PP, shooting in RAW really helps with that type of control, since the hazy cast is not baked in like in JPEG.

The big thing with stacking filters is vignettes. I know that on my 18-70, I cant put 2 filters on the lens unless they're thin-mount filters because i get black corners.
