Default Pretty Pretty Fungus

On Sunday, as I was cleaning my lenses before a wedding, I discovered my 18-135 has a pretty white fungal growth on the inside of the front element.

I can't see fungus on any of my other lenses

I've left it with lens cap off near a window for the last 2 days to get some UV light onto it and hopefully kill it.

Anything else I should be doing to protect my other lenses?
should I wash my bags out too?

I'm getting very close to buying a Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 .....I really want to stop this in its tracks before the new lens arrives in about a month.

Get some silica packets and leave them in the bag, then put the bag in the oven with the door closed. Put your lenses, caps off, in the oven with it. DO NOT TURN THE OVEN ON.

Since ovens are designed to be airtight, the silica will absorb only the moisture from inside the lenses/bag.

Once youre done, use the silica packets in the bag at all times. My Vertex 200 has a handful.

Default Good to know

I did not realize fungus could be a problem.
What is "Vertex 200"?.
Always appreciate your explanations.

ok, so washing them isn't going to help remove spores?

i keep my bags in a very dry environment (although slightly warm) ...i don't now how this could have happened.. FML

I do have Silica Gel packets in my bags too.. I seldom dry them out though.
