Default Tripod Identification

So I went to a local auction type thing yesterday and while I was wandering around I stumbled across an old Manfrotto tripod, which I bid on and will find out if I won tonight.

It seemed in good condition. Aluminum I think with some clear signs of use but no damage or anything and the locks etc work fine.

The only identification I could find on it was the words "Manfrotto Professional Tripod" and "Art 055" and "#128lp" on the head.

So....does anyone know if this is an older model, predating the current line? or is it a 055Pro?

well, the good news is I won...I think it's an older 055PRO but I'll know better I guess after I pick it up.

It does sound like an older 055 series. I'll look forward to learning the result!

Well, after picking it up and getting a better look I have managed to identifyit as a '95 - '99 era 055.

This page was really handy...

After cleaning it up a little it's in excellent condition, I tell ya...Manfrotto make stuff to last! It's little hefty but nice and solid and for the price that I paid I couldn't be happier with it. Eventually I'll probably end up replacing the head with a newer ball, both for versatility and weight as the pan and tilt is pretty chunky.

Since it didn't come with a bag I rigged up a carrying system with a few zip ties, a couple of split rings and the strap from an old duffel I had sitting around...pretty much ready to trek!
