Default AF on my new Tamron Lens

I have been researching macro lenses for a while, and I finally decided on the Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di. All of the reviews and descriptions I read says that the lens has a focusing motor, so it will work with my Nikon D5000, which doesn't have a motor. I received the lens in the mail today, and NO autofocus!
So I just wondering if anyone has this particular lens and uses it with a Nikon body. Is there something I am missing or doing wrong? Or perhaps the lens I received is broken?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Isn't there a push-pull ring to put it in AF/MF mode? Is this in the correct position? Does the focus limit switch make any difference to what you're seeing?

There is a push/pull ring to change the modes, but even when I put the lens on AF mode, my camera will not let me change from MF mode. I tried changing the limit switch too, and it didn't do anything on AF mode. It only seemed to affect MF mode.

Go in to your shooting menu and make sure you didn't inadvertantly change the focus mode in camera to MF. If it is, you can flip the switch on the lens all you want, and it still will not AF. I have done this several times, and wracked my brain trying to figure out what I did wrong.

Thanks everyone for your ideas. After some more research, I found out that Tamron came out with a new model for this lens. The new model, 272ENII, works with the D5000. On the older model lens, 272EN, the autofocus only works with cameras with a built in motor, like the D90. That's what I get for buying used.
Perhaps it will give me a good excuse to upgrade my camera body.

Sorry to hear about your problems, that's a bummer. Can you return the lens? Good dealers like KEH have a "no questions" return policy (which I have used several times). I would not buy used lenses or bodies without either such a policy or being able to test them first.

I bought it off ebay. I talked the seller, and he said I could return it, but I decided to keep it instead. My manual focus skills are lacking anyway, and this gives me a great reason to practice them. And I'm planning on upgrading to a D90 soon, so the lens will AF on that body.

For macro work you generally want to use MF anyways...
Hope you got a great deal.

A D90 is not much of an upgrade. Maybe a D7000 would be a better buy (it also has an in body focus motor like the D90)
