Memory cards

I am soon to buy my first digital SLR. It seems that per byte, it is cheaper to buy a large capacity card. Is there any downside to doing this? Do they take more power for example?

Is there anything else one needs to consider when choosing memory?

I guess you could potentially lose more photos if your large capacity card goes down during an assignment. I personally like the convenience of larger cards. I generally carry two 16GB CF cards with me. I feel like I'm more likely to misplace or forget one if I'm managing several smaller capacity cards, especially during a hectic assignment.
